Bay Dig Deep to Secure the Win During their First Home Game of the Season

Colwyn Bay 1st XV got their first home game of the season off to a winning start on Saturday, securing a hard-fought 25–21 victory over Dolgellau at Brookfield Drive.

It was a competitive and physical encounter from start to finish, with Dolgellau providing a real test throughout the afternoon. Bay showed plenty of determination and composure, particularly in the closing stages, to hold on and secure the points.

The tries came through Luke Rollands, who crossed once, and Rhodri Davies, who added two tries to the scoreboard.

Harri Glyn was named Man of the Match after an outstanding performance. His game management and skill set proved crucial, with his ability to control the game and influence play standing out across the 80 minutes.

Captain Kieran Thomas reflected on the performance:

“We were really pleased to come away with the win against Dolgellau. A big thank you to them for making the journey to Brookfield Drive and putting on such a physical game.

We knew it was going to be a tough afternoon, and they certainly gave us a run for our money, especially towards the end of the second half. We managed to stay composed, dig deep and hold on for the 25–21 win.

Credit to the boys for the effort and determination to get over the line — it wasn’t our easiest game, but definitely an important win for us.”

A big thank you to Dolgellau for travelling and contributing to a great contest.

Final score: Colwyn Bay 25 – 21 Dolgellau

From Stingray’s to Senior Rugby: Dylan Makes Club History

Last weekend marked a very special milestone for Colwyn Bay Rugby Club, as Stingrays stalwart Dylan Evans made his debut for Colwyn Bay 2nd XV.

Dylan has been part of the Stingrays since our very first session and has been one of the first names on the team sheet ever since. His commitment, enthusiasm and love of the game have made him a hugely valued member of the group.

His inclusion in the 2nd XV squad also marks a first for Colwyn Bay Rugby Club and is a fantastic example of the pathway we want to create across the club — providing opportunities from walking and mixed ability rugby right through to senior rugby and the 1st XV.

A huge congratulations to Dylan on a brilliant achievement. We’re incredibly proud of you and look forward to seeing many more appearances in a Colwyn Bay shirt.

Well done, Dylan! 👏🏻🏉

Strong Start for Colwyn Bay 1XV with Away Win at Bangor

Colwyn Bay 1st XV continued their positive start to the season with an impressive 38–15 victory away at Bangor, producing a performance built on strong structure, resilience and a real collective effort across the squad.

The Bay made a confident start, applying pressure from the opening exchanges and quickly settling into their shape. An early injury to Dan Parry, making his return to action, was a disappointing moment, but the response from the rest of the side was excellent as they maintained their intensity and began to build a lead.

Bangor ensured it was far from a straightforward afternoon, fighting their way back into the contest and testing Colwyn Bay both physically and tactically. Playing into the wind during the second half also provided an important challenge, with the visitors required to manage the game carefully and adapt as momentum shifted.

The team responded well, showing composure and resilience to secure a deserved 38–15 victory.

Luke Rowlands delivered an outstanding individual performance, crossing for three tries and earning the Man of the Match award. Kieran Thomas added two tries, with Gaz Williams also getting on the scoresheet.

There was another special moment for the club as Iolo James made his senior debut, having earned his opportunity through his hard work and performances.

Head Coach Gav Hodgkinson

Reflecting on the match, Head Coach Gav Hodgkinson said:

“It was great to get back to game day, with the squad travelling away to Bangor.

The selection this week was challenging, with a number of players putting in effort and competing hard for one of the 20 jerseys. As a coaching group, those are the decisions we want to be faced with, and that competition continues to drive standards within the squad.

We started extremely well, applying pressure and executing our structure with confidence. Unfortunately, within the first few minutes we lost Dan Parry to injury. We were all excited to see Dan back playing, and his first involvement was very positive. To see him suffer an injury was obviously disappointing for Dan, the players and coaching staff. We’ll support him through his recovery and hopefully see him back on the pitch soon.

The response from the group was excellent. We kept our pressure, stuck to our structure and got the scoreboard moving early.

However, Bangor provided the test we needed. They fought their way back into the game and forced us to defend for periods, challenging us physically and tactically. Going into the second half with the wind against us also gave us an important opportunity to test our game management and ability to adapt when conditions and momentum aren’t in our favour.

There are certainly areas we can improve, but overall I was very proud of the performance and, more importantly, the attitude shown by the group. There were some incredible individual performances, but the collective effort and resilience pleased me most.

“It was also fantastic to see Iolo James make his senior debut. He has worked hard and earned his opportunity, and hopefully this will be the first of many appearances for him.

Our focus now turns to Dolgellau next Saturday. While we’re pleased with how we’ve started, we know there is plenty of work still to do. Dolgellau will provide another tough test, and we’ll need to prepare and raise our standards again this week.

Finally, a huge thank you to everyone who travelled to Bangor to support us. Your support makes a big difference to the players and coaching staff. We’d love to see the same support behind us at home on Saturday!”

Colwyn Bay now turn their attention to Dolgellau at home next Saturday, with the squad looking to build on the momentum from another encouraging performance.

Final Score: Bangor 15–38 Colwyn Bay 1st XV
Try Scorers: Luke Rowlands x3, Kieran Thomas x2, Gaz Williams x1
Man of the Match: Luke Rowlands

Fancy Dress Touch Rugby Tournament Raises Funds for St David’s Hospice

Colwyn Bay RFC was full of colour, laughter and community spirit on Saturday 5th September, as the club hosted a fantastic Fancy Dress Touch Rugby Tournament in support of St David’s Hospice.

Bringing together players from across the club, the tournament featured Women’s, Men’s, Veterans (65+) and Mixed Ability Rugby, making it a brilliant celebration of everything that being one club and one community is all about.

Plus, everyone embraced the fancy dress theme!

💵 We raised money
🧜🏼‍♀️ We played hard
🤩 We laughed loads

More importantly than anything else, everybody who came along did so with a shared purpose: to support the incredible work of St David’s Hospice.

Touch rugby was played in fantastic spirits throughout the day, with plenty of friendly competition, some memorable outfits and lots of laughs along the way. It was wonderful to see different sections of the club coming together on the pitch and supporting such an important local cause.

A huge thank you goes to the fantastic Colwyn Bay RFC Veterans, Colwyn Bay Men’s Touch Rugby, Colwyn Bay Mermaids Ladies Touch Rugby and everyone representing our Mixed Ability Rugby section for getting involved and helping make the tournament such a success.

Special thanks must also go to Mandy, who ran the tombola; Olivia, who joined representing St David’s Hospice; and everyone at the club who helped provide the food, hospitality and support throughout the day.

Thank you, too, to every player, volunteer, supporter and visitor who came through the gates, donated, bought tombola tickets, cheered from the sidelines or simply helped create such a brilliant atmosphere.

Days like this demonstrate that rugby at Colwyn Bay RFC is about far more than what happens on the pitch. It is about bringing people together, supporting our community and using the strength of our club to make a difference.

An absolutely awesome day for an amazing cause.

💙 Thank you to everyone who played their part.

2XV Start the Season in Style with a Home Win Over Rhyl

Colwyn Bay RFC’s 2XV got their 2026/27 season off to the perfect start on Saturday 5th September 2026, securing an impressive 43–17 victory over Rhyl at Brookfield Drive.

In their first competitive fixture of the new campaign, the Bay produced a strong team performance in front of the home crowd, putting 36 points on the board and limiting the visitors to 12.

It was a great way to begin the season and a positive reward for all the hard work that has gone into pre-season. With plenty of rugby still to come, the result gives the squad an excellent platform to build from over the weeks ahead.

A huge thank you, as always, to everyone who came down to support the team and helped create a brilliant atmosphere at the club. Thank you to Rhyl for a great match and giving us a challenge.

Colwyn Bay RFC Unveil New 1XV Home and Away Kits for 2026/27

A new chapter begins at Colwyn Bay RFC as the club proudly unveils the new 1XV home and alternative playing kits for the 2026/27 season.

Designed in partnership with Exile Sportswear, the new jerseys combine a fresh, modern look with unmistakable references to the history and traditions of Colwyn Bay Rugby Football Club.

Speaking following the reveal, 1XV Head Coach Gav Hodgkinson explained the thinking behind the new shirts:

“As a new era begins, our home jersey is a nod to the past, going back to a mainly white shirt with thinner lines and a modern twist. Marcus from Exile and I worked extremely hard over the weeks to create a shirt that we feel the squad can be proud of. With seahorse panelling and traditional box numbering on the back, we feel that, as a club, we can build on our traditions while continuing to push forward with our modern approach.

Our alternative jersey, kindly supplied by Marcus at Exile, also has plenty of meaning. The shirt itself has a 7s style in bright yellow and navy. Yellow is also a colour our club has used in years gone by, so we felt this was appropriate to bring it back. Colwyn Bay is famous for its sandy beaches, and this jersey most certainly has a beach rugby feel, with navy lines and seahorses throughout the design. It also features the traditional box numbering, and we feel that it’s a great mix of 7s style and club tradition.”

The kit reveal also marks the beginning of an exciting new period for the 1XV under Head Coach Gav Hodgkinson, pictured alongside Assistant Coach Sam Williams, as preparations continue for the new season.

Our thanks go to Marcus and the team at Exile Sportswear for their work alongside Gav in developing the new kits, and to Gwyn Evans CVF, DPS and Linney Cooper for sponsoring the home jersey and Exile Sportswear for their sponsorship and supply of the away kit.

Two very different shirts, but both unmistakably Colwyn Bay.

A new chapter. A new kit. A new era. The same pride.🔵⚪
